We don't even have glasses-free 3D TVs in homes yet, but there's already talk of other places where the technology will pop up. According to The Hollywood Reporter, MasterImage 3D is wheeling and dealing to put glasses-free 3D screens into planes and cars. Of course, they wouldn't name any of the actual companies interested, but said that it could be almost 3 years before we see the screens as part of air travel. Fat Girl Blu-ray Review

The Film
Director Catherine Breillat (Romance) isn't known for her subtlety and she seems to enjoy thrusting (for the lack of a better word) rather intense subject matter into the gaping mouths of the audience. Fat Girl has the potential to deeply disturb American parents, in particular, as the film deals with teenage sexuality in a way that Hollywood directors would never dare to touch. As I viewed Fat

Tribeca 2011: Gnarr Movie Review

Politics Like it Oughta Be

In 2008, Iceland went through a financial disaster that made most other countries happy that they weren't Iceland. At least partially as a result of this, Jón Gnarr, Icelandic comedian and former punk rocker, announced that he was running for the position of Mayor of Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland. He

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas Blu-ray Review

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold. - Raoul Duke
The Film
The late Hunter S. Thompson appears in Terry Gilliam's (Brazil, The Fisher King) adaptation of his novel, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, for only a brief few seconds (somewhere... Hitchcock is inhaling ether while swatting at demonic crows), but it is a cool moment in a film that left more

Norio Ohga, former Sony chairman and multimedia pioneer, dies at 81

There's more sad news out of Japan this morning, we're afraid -- Sony is reporting that former chairman Norio Ohga passed away in Tokyo yesterday from multiple organ failure. He was 81. You may not personally remember a Sony under his reign -- Ohga directly helmed the company from 1982 to 1995 after decades of service in product planning -- but Norio Ohga was arguably the man responsible for turning Sony from a high-profile analog electronics manufacturer into a

Trying the Game Portal 2 in Stereoscopic 3D Mode With 3D Vision

The game Portal 2 has been out for a few days already and I’ve decided to try it out in stereoscopic 3D mode with 3D Vision to see how good it will look with the added sense of volume. Portal 2 uses Valve’s Source engine, so expectations were high considering that the engine does perform quite well in stereo 3D mode. I’ve used the latest 3D Vision drivers version 270.61 WHQL that do come with an official profile for the game and in it Portal 2 is rated as providing Good

Benny & Joon Blu-ray Review

The Film
He's crazy and she's crazy -- no really crazy. Benny & Joon is a love story between, well... not Benny (Aidan Quinn) and Joon (Mary Stuart Masterson). They are actually brother and sister. Instead, the object of Joon's affection is Sam (Johnny Depp), and frankly, the two don't seem to have a full deck between them.
They do have a nice connection, though. They both hate the California Raisins (who

Testing 3D Vision Surround On 3x 24-inch Acer GD245HQ Monitors

As I’ve mentioned a few days ago the last weekend I finally managed to get three 24-inch Acer GD245HQ (the same as Acer GD235HZ) in one place in order to do some personal testing of the 3D Vision Surround technology. The idea of that technology is to allow you to span the desktop and games on three monitors, giving you much wider field of view (did I hear somebody unfair advantage) and as a result providing you with a more immersive stereoscopic 3D experience. 3D Vision Surround is still

DirecTV's iPad, iPhone, Android apps will also have HBO Go streaming May 2nd

Just like the web versions of HBO Go and Max Go are accessible both through their own sites and various provider portals, DirecTV has announced it will include access to them in its own apps on iPad, iPhone and "select Android devices" at the same time native Go apps launch. There's no word on what restrictions may be placed on Android, if it's just Froyo or higher hardware with Flash accessibility, then that's one thing, but Netflix-style DRM tie ups could

3net Debuts 3D Series About 3D

While you're polishing off the jellybeans this Sunday, don't forget that you've got a new program to watch.  The good people at 3net have announced (via The Futon Critic) yet another original program. Wow -- those folks are on fire! The 24/7 3D cable net, which is a joint venture between Sony, Discovery and IMAX, just announced plans to debut "In the Qube," a 3D news program that's all about 3D.   The one-hour monthly series sounds a little bit like "E! News." Maybe that's
